Wright rides into second round at WEF
WELLINGTON, Fla. – South Dakota State’s Santana Wright made it past the first round of the Collegiate Equitation Challenge at the Winter Equestrian Festival on Friday in Wellington, Fla., but fell in the second round.
Wright rode a horse named Lathano to a 65-20 victory over Emily Rizzo from the University of Florida in the first round, but fell to Texas A&M’s Hanna Williams in the second round of the bracketed event by an 81-77 score, thus ending her day.
Friday marked the third time that the Port Hope, Ontario native competed in the event, which features 16 riders from both the National Collegiate Equestrian Association and the International Horse Show Association competing head-to-head over fences at WEF, the world’s largest and longest running equestrian competition.
Wright and the Jackrabbit equestrian team return to action on Feb. 22, when they host Minnesota-Crookston at the DeHaan Equestrian Center. At 10 a.m.
