OKLAHOMA CITY - The National Reining Horse Association tabbed South Dakota State Western rider Helen Lauth for the second straight year as an at-large selection to compete at the NRHA Derby in Oklahoma City, Okla.

An Eyota, Minn., native, Lauth posted a score of 140.5 in the NRHA Collegiate Class to tie for sixth place with a rider from New Mexico State. Carrie Von Uhlit from Texas Christian posted a score of 147.5 to win the event.

"Helen got a good draw, a really seasoned campaigner that was still really honest and willing in the arena that she could trust," SDSU associate head equestrian coach Joe Humphrey said. "The horse didn't have the biggest stops or the most speed, but Helen had a really clean, correct run. I think she got the most out of her horse that she could and stayed relaxed and controlled during the ride. It was one of her better efforts from the past two years."

A sophomore during the 2009-10 season, Lauth finished eighth at the NRHA Derby last year.
