RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The South Dakota State equestrian team took home four first place finishes, nine second place finishes and Ashley Marrin qualified for IHSA Regionals in intermediate equitation over fences at an IHSA English show over the weekend in River Falls, Wis.
"These were the first competitions I have attended with the team since I started last week and I was extremely impressed with the girls' competitiveness, showmanship and cohesiveness as a team," assistant coach Leigh Nichol said. "Each rider gave a 100 percent effort and the results prove that."
Angela Noyes and Santana Wright opened the weekend with wins in their sections of novice equitation on the flat on Saturday. Jenna Boscardin also showed well on Saturday, finishing second in both intermediate equitation over fences and intermediate equitation on the flat.
Kelsey Byrnes won her section of novice over fences on Sunday and Laura Schreiner won her section of advanced walk/trot/canter. Marrin finished third in intermediate over fences, but scored high enough to qualify for IHSA Regionals on March 5-6, 2011, in Crookston, Minn.
The Jackrabbit English riders return to action on Nov. 6-7, in an IHSA show in Crookston, Minn., while the Western team hosts an IHSA event on Oct. 29-30, at the Swiftel Center in Brookings.
