Byrnes rides to IHSA Nationals
DOUSMAN, Wis. - South Dakota State sophomore Skye Byrnes finished first in novice equitation on the flat over the weekend at the IHSA Hunt Seat Zone Finals in Dousman, Wis., to advance to IHSA Nationals.
Three other Jackrabbits also competed at the zone finals, where only the top two riders advance to nationals. Sophomore Megan Violand finished third in novice equitation over fences, sophomore Jenna Boscardin finished third in intermediate equitation on the flat, while senior Ashley Marrin finished sixth in intermediate equitation over fences.
"It was a fun and exciting weekend, and all four girls put forth their best effort," SDSU Interim Assistant Coach Leigh Nichol said. "It was disheartening that Ashley did not advance to nationals after such valiant efforts over her senior season, and this weekend. She rode awesome! Jenna and Megan were so close, but finishing third out of 10 riders is very respectable. Skye rode solidly this weekend, and with another solid performance, I'm confident she'll fare very well at nationals in May."
The 2010-11 Jackrabbit equestrian season comes to a close following the IHSA Nationals, which take place on May 5-8 in Lexington, Ky.
