Two South Dakota State riders earned MVP honors in Saturday's home opener against UT-Martin and the Jackrabbits finished in an 8-8 tie with the Skyhawks at the end of the show, but UT-Martin won in a tiebreaker.

"It was disappointing to lose in a tie breaker, but we had some outstanding rides and finished the day with two MVPs," head coach Megan Rossiter said after coaching her first-ever home show. "We look forward to our next competition on Hobo Day weekend, and we feel like we're in a good place compete with Auburn and Delaware State on Nov. 5-6."

The loss drops the Jacks to 1-3 on the season, while the Skyhawks improve to an even 1-1.

Megan Violand carded a 74 in equitation on the flat to earn one of the Jacks two points in the event, and took home MVP honors.

On the Western side, Kelsey Champagne won the MVP in horsemanship with a 72.5, one of three Jackrabbit points in the event, as Hillery Baysinger and Maggie Holzworth both scored for the Jacks.

The Jacks get a week off before returning to action against Auburn on Nov. 5 and then Delaware State on Nov. 6. Both shows begin at 9 a.m. at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.
