Jacks alter schedule
The next few weeks will look a bit different for the men's and women's track and field teams. Head Coach Rod DeHaven has made a few adjustments to the beginning of the outdoor season.
Due to unseasonably cool weather conditions in Columbia, Mo., the Jackrabbit track and field teams have altered their schedule this weekend and next. A small contingent of six athletes will run in the 5000 meters at the Missouri Relays on Friday evening.
Next weekend the Jackrabbits will split between the Razorback Spring Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. and the Wayne State Invitational in Wayne, Neb. on Saturday March 30th.
The Jacks also will have Tera Potts competing in the steeplechase at the prestigious Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. Erin Hargens, Michael Krsnak and Trent Lusignan will compete at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday March 29th.
During the outdoor campaign, athletes can advance to the first round of the NCAA Championships by being one the top 48 performers in the region.
The NCAA is split into two regions, with SDSU being in the west region.
The western portion of the NCAA Championship First Round in is May 24-26th in Austin, Texas. Five current Jackrabbit athletes have qualified previously for the event, Brooke Garner, Amy Paulzine, Mary Wirth, Krsnak and Luke Leischner. To be able to advance from the NCAA first round to the NCAA Finals in Eugene, Ore. an athlete must finish in the top 12 in their event. For the relay events the top 24 teams advance to the first round with 8 teams advancing from each region to the finals.
On April 6th the Jacks are scheduled to host North Dakota, South Dakota and Omaha for a meet that will be scored as a separate duals.
