Women break six records on day three

The South Dakota State University women’s swimming and diving team broke six school records to build onto their second place lead on day three of the Summit League Championships Friday night.

Oakland leads with 711 points. The Jackrabbits are in second place with 429 points. USD is in third with 338 points.

Senior Jessica Ferley placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 1:52.39.

The 400-yard medley relay team of Morgan McLain, Kaitlyn Hemmingson, Ashley Valdez and Kaylin Caron placed second in a school-record time of 3:51.30. McLain's 100-yard backstroke split of 56.58 seconds was also a school record.

In time trials, the 200-yard medley relay broke the school-record with a time of 1:46.30. McLain’s 50-yard backstroke split of 26.85 seconds beat her old record by .03.

Hemmingson finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:06.33. Alanah Bird finished fifth in 1:07.08.

Andrea Budahl finished fifth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:33.84. Budahl broke the school-record in the event in prelims with a time of 4:30.97.

McLain finished fifth in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 57.00 seconds.

Valdez finished seventh in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 57.67 seconds.

The Championships conclude Saturday night.
