South Dakota State University swimmer Alexandra Hoffman was crowned Miss South Dakota during the annual pageant this past weekend in Hot Springs.

A Eureka native, Hoffman won the title of Miss South Dakota State University in November. She will represent South Dakota in the Miss America Pageant in January in Las Vegas. She also is expected to appear in a reality television series filmed by The Learning Channel cable network in the months leading up to the Miss America Pageant.

Hoffman, who recently completed her sophomore year at SDSU, is majoring in broadcast journalism. Her platform is "Battling Obesity and Healthy Lifestyle Choices."

As a member of the Jackrabbit swimming and diving team, Hoffman set five individual school records and finished as runner-up in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events at The Summit League Championships. She also swam on four school-record relays during the 2007-08 season.
