TAMPA, Fla. - The South Dakota State University women's swimming team won two events Saturday en route to a runner-up finish at the Tampa Relays.
The six-team meet consisted of 10 different relays, with the Jackrabbits claiming the 3x100-yard backstroke and the 400 medley relays. Morgan McLain and Jessica Ferley were part of both relay victories, teaming with Lisa Newberger for a winning time of 3 minutes, 2.85 seconds in the backstroke event and joining Ashley Valdez and Nicole Grimit for a top time of 4:07.08 in the medley relay.
The Jackrabbits added four runner-up finishes, including opening the meet with a second-place effort in the 800 freestyle relay.
Host Tampa won the meet with 122 points, followed by SDSU with 98. Arkansas-Little Rock rounded out the top half of the field with 80 points.
The Jackrabbits return to action Friday (Jan. 13) with a home dual against Iowa Central. Start time is 6 p.m. at the Stanley J. Marshall HPER Center Pool.
