Jacks blank Valpo
The South Dakota State women's tennis team blanked Valparaiso 7-0 on Monday afternoon in Valparaiso, Ind.
The Jacks made quick work of the Crusaders, sweeping the meet in straight sets.
Brooke Henry and Tacy Haws-Lay matched the score at No. 1 versus Megan Barthels and Kaitlyn Hamel at No. 2, while Florencia Magni and Beatriz Souza won in more convincing fashion at No. 3 versus Angelina Goheen and Lauren Kammerer, 8-3.
In singles, SDSU swept in straight sets and no Jackrabbit lost more than four games in a single set.
Magni defeated Zakiewicz 6-0, 6-3 at the top spot, while Blackburne defeated Hamel 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2.
Souza, Haws-Lay, Tiffany Filipovich and Henry were also straight-set winners at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
Souza won by the greatest margin of any two-set match in a 6-0, 6-1 win versus Fredlake. Haws-Lay defeated Barthels 6-2, 6-1. Filipovich did not lose a single game, but only played one set as Goheen retired after a shutout in the opening set. Henry closed out the meet with a 6-1, 6-2 win versus Kammerer.
The win, in its final non-conference meet of the season, pushed SDSU's record to 11-9 overall.
The Jacks are back in action on April 11 in its final weekend of regular season play. SDSU plays four meets in three days at the conference cluster, beginning with Oakland. Meet time is set for 9 a.m. in Omaha, Neb., one week from Thursday.
