Rabbit duo quailfies for Zones; Jacks down 'Yotes
BROOKINGS, S.D. -- Clark Kocourek and Connor Florand highlighted a dominating performance by the Jackrabbits Saturday afternoon as SDSU swept the University of South Dakota. The Jackrabbit men won 177-118, while the women won by a score of 186-107.
In its first dual since returning from a week-long training trip in Florida, SDSU had a pair of divers qualify for the Zone D Championships and saw the 3-meter school record fall in the process.
Kocourek broke the 3-meter school record with a zone-qualifiying dive of 333.32 - Florand also qualified in the 1-meter dive with a 306.30.
On the women's board, Olivia Olesiak won the 3-meter dive with a score of 247.88.
The Jackrabbit relay squad of Samantha Prasher, Emily Campbell, Nicole Grimit and Devonne Dalin won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.61. SDSU also claimed 400 freestyle relay as Shauna Foor, Nicole Grimit, Selina Gilbertson and Dalin crossed in 3:39.62. Grimit also won the 200 free with a time of 1:57.32, while Prasher won the 100 backstroke with a mark of 1:00.90. Campbell's 1:06.03 and 2:21.50 times in the 100 and 200 breastrokes were good for first place.
Andrea Budahl won the 500 and 1000 freestyles with times of 5:13.33 and 10:38.77, respectively, while Trina Young won the 200 butterfly in 2:12.50. Dalin also won the 50 and 100 freestyles in 24.94 and 53.95, while Elizabeth Buchholz won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.49.
On the men's side, Wil Hogue narrowly missed the school record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.95. Matt Carpenter won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:54.35, while Blake Yeager took the 500, crossing in 4:46.18 and Geoffrey Longhurst won the 200 in 1:43.83.
The SDSU men swept both relays, as Phil Albu, John Overman, Garth Wadsworth and Ben Bolinske won the 200 medley relay in 1:36.49. The 400 freestyle relay team of Hogue, Jacobson, Yeager and Bolinske won in 3:07.60.
The Jacks return to the pool on Jan. 18 at St. Cloud State.
