Jacks open outdoor season with strong performances
RALEIGH, N.C. – The South Dakota State distance runners posted top performances at the Raleigh Relays Friday as Drew Kraft and Megan West both excelled in the steeplechase event. Kraft went on to set a personal-best time and West recorded the sixth-fastest time in school history.
Kraft represented the Jackrabbit men in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He finished 13th overall with his personal-best time of 9 minutes, 18.87 seconds. Kraft posted the third-fastest time in his heat.
West clocked in for a time of 11:03.88, as she finished fifth in her section and overall she took 18th. Her time today moves her into sixth all-time in school history.
Courtney Neubert ran a personal-best time of 17:31.89 to take seventh in her section of the 5,000-meter run. She placed 58th overall out of 160 runners.
The Jackrabbits sent Joel Reichow and Brendan Sage to compete in the 5,000-meter run. Reichow and Sage competed in two different heats. Reichow posted a final time of 14:49.40 to place 19th in his section. finished ninth in his section with his overall time of 15:02.81. Overall, Reichow placed 72nd and Sage took 86th out of 175 runners.
TEMPE, Ariz. – The South Dakota State throwers took to action for the first time this spring at the Arizona State University Invite. Both Cullen Mack and Amy Paulzine set personal-best marks in the hammer throw.
Mack recorded a distance of 168 feet, 9 inches to place eighth in the men’s hammer and Paulzine posted a mark of 167-9 to take ninth in the women’s hammer throw.
Paulzine also placed fifth in the javelin throw with her final distance of 130-10. Silvia Zanini posted a distance of 110-11 to take seventh.
The Jackrabbits return to action tomorrow as they compete at the Arizona State Invitational and the Wayne State Invitational.
