Jacks open outdoor season...

The South Dakota State men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor season this weekend at the Missouri Relays...

On Friday, SDSU had athletes compete in the hammer, javelin and 200 meter dash.

In the women's 200 meter dash, Amber Olson was the top Jackrabbit finisher at 27.09 in 16th place.

Courtney Neubert placed seventh in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:08.02. Danielle McCann finished 11 seconds later in eighth.

Leading the way in the field events was Brooke Garner, who finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 179 feet, four inches.

Amy Paulzine placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 127 feet, one inch.

On day two, Garner continued her success with a third-place finish in the discus with a toss of 151 feet, five inches. Paulzine finished one place and four inches behind.

McKenzie Johnson finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 46 feet, nine and one-half inches.

Bobbie McLaury, Meyer and Kopfmann finished 10th, 11th and 12th in the 800 meter run

In the 1500 meter run, Molly Kopfmann placed 11th in 5:01.93.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Olson, Ashley Gruenwald, Amy Leiferman and Erica Meyer placed sixth in a time of 52.28.

Gruenwald was also 11th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.58.

On the men's side, Jake Brinkmann posted a second-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 188 feet, seven inches. The throw is the second-best toss in school history and a personal best by four feet, one inch.

Arran Davis was fourth in the javelin with a distance of 175 feet, six inches.

The men mirrored the women in the 5000, as Kyle Schmidt finished seventh with a time of 14:57.40, and Trent Lusignan followed four seconds later for eighth.

In the 200, Austin Colombe and Justin Carson finished in 16th and 17th, respectively, at 23.42 and 23.44.

On day two, Calvin Cammack led the men with a third-place finish in the pole vault.

Brinkmann also placed third, but in the discus, with a throw of 163 feet, six inches.

Jake Schneller was third in the 1500, as well, with a time of 3:54.69. The Jacks took five of the top 10 spots in that event.

Carson was also fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.93.

In the 800, Jared Ailts finished seventh in 1:56.59.

Levi Winkels and Dominic Thielen were 13th and 14th in the 400, respectively, with times of 51.57 and 51.62.
