South Dakota State women's track and field thrower Brooke Garner was named The Summit League's Outdoor Track and Field Women's Athlete of the Week for her performances May 1-7.

Garner competed at two meets this past weekend, winning the discus twice and placing second in the hammer throw once.

At the NDSU Dual, Garner won the discus with a throw of 164 feet, 11 inches, and was runner-up in the hammer with a toss of 173 feet, 10 inches.

At the USF Relays, Garner won the discus with a school and state record throw of 173 feet, three inches. The throw is best in the league and 30th in the nation.

Garner earns her second career award and second of the outdoor season. It is the final weekly track and field award of the outdoor season.
