Assmus claims third in the weight throw

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On the first day of the 2013-14 Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships, Shelby Assmus finished third overall in the weight throw. She recorded a mark of 55 feet, 11 3/4 inches.  

Also in the weight throw, Amy Paulzine finished in fourth with her distance of 54-6 3/4.

In the prelims of the 60-meter dash, both Carly Carper and Gina Fritz advanced to the finals tomorrow. Carper ran a personal-best time of 7.70 seconds to take second. Her time ranks third-best all-time at SDSU. Frtiz posted a final time of 7.93 to qualify in sixth-place.

Carper and Fritz also advanced to the finals of the 200-meter dash. Carper and Fritz finished in sixth and seventh as they ran times of 25.13 and 25.30, respectively.

Carper also placed ninth in the long jump with her distance of 17-7.

Marissia Hagedorn advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with her personal-best time of 9.05. Her time was the third-fastest on the day. She also moves into a tie for eighth-place all-time in the SDSU record books (Kira Sudbeck, 2004).  

In the 3,000-meter run, four Jackrabbits finished in the top-10. Megan West led the Jackrabbit pack as she finished fourth with her personal-best time of 10:06.90. Also in the 3,000-meter run, Courtney Neubert (10:10.71) placed seventh, Alex Suhr (10:32.18) took ninth and Cheyanne Bowers (10:35.85) rounded-out the top-10.

Jessica McDonald led the Jackrabbits in the 400-meter dash as she placed 10th with her final time of 1:00.14.

In the prelims of the 800-meter run, Jessica Eibs qualified for the finals with her time of 2:16.68. Also in the 800-meter run, Bobbie McLaury finished ninth overall with her season-best time of 2:16.71.

Cailyn Schreurs represented the Jackrabbits in the women’s indoor pentathlon event. The freshman tallied a final score of 2,828 points to finish in 10th-place.

She started the day with a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (9.53). In the high jump she took 11th with her height of 4-7 1/2. Schreurs posted a final mark of 28-1 1/2 in the shot put. In the long jump, she recorded a mark of 14-10 as she claimed 12th and in the final event of the competition, the 800-meter run, Schreurs ran a time of 2:34.81 to finish fifth.

Due to an officials’ error, the distance medley relay was one lap short. The team of Brooke Peterson, Jacleen Patterson, McLaury and Lindsey Strait finished in third-place with their time of 11:27.82.

The 2013-14 Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships conclude tomorrow starting at 9:30 a.m.
