Relay records fall at Drake
DES MOINES, Iowa – The South Dakota State women's track and field team set two school records Friday at the Drake Relays. The Jackrabbits broke both 4x200-meter relay and 4x800-meter relay school records.
The 4x200-meter relay team of Jacleen Patterson, Jazzelena Black, Gina Fritz and Carly Carper claimed the first school record of the day. Overall, they ran a combined time of 1 minute, 39.38 seconds to place ninth overall in the event.
The second school record to fall on the day was in the 4x800-meter relay. The group of Jessica Eibs, Lindsey Strait, Bobbie McLaury and Karley Konkol crossed the finish line in 9:01.40 to place 10th overall. Their time today broke the school record of 9:05.50 set back in 1986.
Back in 1986, the team of Fordham, Stevenson, Young and Snedeker posted a time of 9:05.50.
In the prelims of the 4x100-meter relay, the team of , , and Carper posted an overall time of 47.28 to take 17th.
Kali Olson placed 12th in the high jump event with her height of 5 feet, 7 3/4 inches.
Amy Paulzine tied her season-best distance of 142-2 in the javelin throw to finish 10th.
Shelby Assmus placed 11th in the discus throw with her mark of 147-2.
In addition to competing at the Drake Relays, the Jackrabbits took part in the Kip Janvrin Open.
Ashley Wagner cleared a personal-best height of 5-4 1/4 in the high jump as she finished fourth.
Monique Mack leaped a distance of 14-5 in the long jump event. Mack placed 23rd overall.
Jenna Stephens recorded a top-10 finish in the triple jump event. Stephens jumped a personal-best distance of 35-6 1/2 to finish eighth.
Erin Ellinger tallied a top-10 finish as she placed seventh with her mark of 105-3.
Three Jackrabbit throwers placed in the top-10 of the shot put event. Johnson went on to win the shot put event with her mark of 44-6 3/4. Also in the event, Zanini took sixth (41-7 1/4) and Sumption claimed tenth (38-7 1/2)
Brooke Peterson, Megan West and S. all placed in the top-10 of the 1,500-meter run. Peterson (fourth) posted a time of 4:42.95, while West (seventh) and S. Anderson (ninth) ran times of 4:45.82 and 4:49.82, respectively. S. Anderson’s time today is a personal-best for her in the 1,500-meter run.
Marissia Hagedorn took fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 14.82.
Hagedorn and Evelyn Klein both posted personal-best times in the 400-meter hurdles. Hagedorn (1:04.66) claimed the runner-up spot, while Klein (1:06.48) placed seventh. Also in the race, Lori Foltz (1:04.71) finished third.
Sydney Proiette and Trapp finished back-to-back in the 100-meter dash. Proiette posted a time of 13.23 to finish 18th and Trapp took 19th with her time of 13.29.
Nina Tucker took 29th in the 200-meter dash with her time of 27.79.
In the 400-meter dash, Kala McDonald (1:00.26) placed 10th.
Erica Meyer ran a personal-best time of 2:20.01 in the 800-meter run to place eighth.
In the 5,000-meter run, Alex Suhr posted a fourth-place finish with her personal-best time of 18:07.78. Also in the 5k, Jenna Grossenburg placed fifth (18:14.92) and Cheyanne Bowers took 10th (18:31.86).
Kirsten Anderson placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her personal-best time of 11:09.38.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Jessica McDonald, K. McDonald, Klein and Foltz took third with their overall time of 4:01.30.
The Jackrabbits wrap up the Drake Relays tomorrow and are at the 89th Howard Wood Dakota Relays next weekend.
