Olson clears high jump PR in regular season finale

FARGO, N.D. - The South Dakota State track & field teams took part in the NDSU Tune-Up Friday. The NDSU Tune-Up is the final meet before the conference meet next week in Fargo, N.D.

Mary Wirth won her third high jump event of the 2014 outdoor season with her height of 5 feet, 9 3/4 inches. Also in the high jump, Kali Olson cleared a personal-best height of 5-8 1/2 en route to her second-place finish. Olson's mark today moves her into a tie for third all-time (Tina Baum, 1993) in the SDSU record book.

Megan Viland posted a time of 13.61 seconds to place third in the 100-meter dash. She also took fourth in the 200-meter dash with her overall time of 28.22.

Jessica McDonald tallied a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with her final time of 59.91.

In the 800-meter run, Bobbie McLaury posted a fourth-place finish as she ran a time of 2:17.76.

Laura Lawton led the Jackrabbits in the 1,500-meter run with her third-place finish (4:45.99).

Cailyn Schreurs won the 100-meter hurdles as she clocked in at 15.53.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Evelyn Klein posted a final time of 1:08.20 to place fifth.

Logan Amdahl posted a height of 10-0 3/4 to place eighth in the pole vault event.

After setting a personal-best mark in the triple jump a few weeks ago, Jenna Stephens claimed a personal-best jump Friday. Stephens took second with her personal-best mark of 36-7 3/4.

McKenzie Johnson placed fourth in the shot put with her distance of 45-0 1/4.

In the discus throw, Amy Paulzine and Silvia Zanini finished third and fourth, respectively. Paulzine tallied a mark of 153-6, while Zanini posted a distance of 153-4.

Paulzine also placed second in the javelin throw (134-5) and took third in the hammer throw (170-11). Also in the hammer throw, Shelby Assmus finished fifth with her mark of 168-3.

On the men’s side, Ryan Schaefer posted a pair of top-10 finishes. He took fourth in the pole vault (15-7) and sixth in the long jump (21-0). Also in the pole vault, Nathaniel Schaefer placed fifth with his personal-best height of 15-7.

In the sprint events, Joseph Bednar took fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.26) and Kory Kohlhof placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.61).

Ryan Swenson ran to a personal-best time of 1:55.94 in the 800-meter run. He placed sixth overall.

Connor Branick ran a time of 4:07.48 to finish third in the 1,500-meter run.

Bennett Mercil clocked in at 16.28 in the 110-meter hurdles to place seventh.

Kyle Anderson took second in the shot put with his personal-best distance of 48-6 3/4.

In the discus throw, Austin Benson (143-3) and Ryan Ackman (141-9) placed eighth and ninth, respectively. Ackman (172-10) also took seventh in the hammer throw.

Blair Seymour took fourth in the javelin throw with his mark of 167-11.

The Jackrabbits close out the season with the 2014 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships next week. The conference meet takes place May 15-17 at the Ellig Sports Complex in Fargo, N.D.
