SDSU women picked third in Summit
A young South Dakota State University women's cross country has been picked to finish in the upper half of The Summit League in 2010, holding down the third spot in a preseason poll conducted by the league's coaches.
Southern Utah received eight of the 10 first-place votes to take the top spot with 80 points. North Dakota State notched the other two first-place votes to finish with 74 points, followed by the Jackrabbits with 56 points.
SDSU, coached by Rod DeHaven, returns only two of its top seven runners from the 2009 Summit League Championships — senior Kelsey Aune and sophomore Tera Potts. The Jackrabbits finished fifth at the 2009 league meet, after winning the title in 2008.
The 2010 Summit League Championships are slated for Oct. 30 in Indianapolis. The Jackrabbits are scheduled to open the season Sept. 4 at a double dual against the University of North Dakota and Seattle University (Wash.) in Grand Forks, N.D.
