Jackrabbit runners host SDSU Classic
The South Dakota State men's and women's cross country teams host the only home meet of the season Saturday at Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings, S.D.
The SDSU Classic features teams from 10 schools, including three nationally ranked teams and six regionally ranked teams. Division I institutions competing in the Classic are North Dakota, Minnesota (women only) and SDSU.
For the men, the Jackrabbits are currently ranked 11th in the Midwest Region. Nebraska-Kearney is ranked fifth in the Division II Central Region and 16th nationally. Minnesota-Duluth is ranked ninth in the Central Region, while Minnesota State, Mankato, is currently ranked eighth in the Central Region.
On the women's side, Minnesota is ranked fourth in the Midwest Region and 27th nationally. The Minnesota-Duluth women are ranked second in the D II Central Region and fourth nationally.
Other teams competing in the Classic are Midland Lutheran, Minnesota State-Moorhead, Northern State, Mount Marty and SDSU Alumni.
The men's 8K race will kickoff at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women's 5K race at 11:15 a.m. An awards ceremony concludes the meet at noon.
During last season's SDSU Classic, the men took the team title with the top Jackrabbits placing third through seventh. Michael Krsnak led for the Jacks with a third-place finish, while James Krajsa of Minnesota State, Mankato, took the individual title.
The women's team placed fourth in a field of 10 teams, with Minnesota taking the top spot. Ashley Storm led the Jacks with a 14th-place finish while All-Americans Beverly Ramos of Kansas State and Megan Duwell of Minnesota finished in first and second, respectively.
