COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Laura Bauer placed first individually, leading the South Dakota State University women's cross country team to a second-place finish Friday at the Fall Finale.
Bauer, a Sioux Falls native, won the 5,000-meter race featuring 105 competitors on the Saint John's University campus in a time of 19 minutes, 33 seconds - 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Molly Noel of Saint Benedict (Minn.). Jessica Ludvik and Barbara Wehde added top-10 finishes, placing fifth and ninth with respective times of 20:02 and 20:08.
Josie Oakland placed 12th overall in a time of 20:10, while Holly Sheets rounded out the SDSU contingent with a 25th-place time of 20:45.
Saint Benedict won the nine-team meet with a team score of 31, followed by SDSU with 49. Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) finished third with 63 team points.
The Jackrabbits are next scheduled to compete Nov. 13 at the NCAA Division I Midwest Regional in Peoria, Ill.
