The South Dakota State women's cross country team finished in second place at the Dakota State Herb Blakey Invitational in Madison, S.D., on Saturday...

The Jackrabbits ran without a few top performers, but put forth an impressive effort at Madison Country Club.

The women's field consisted of four teams and 29 runners.

South Dakota State took four of the top eight spots. The four SDSU runners finished in order; fifth-, sixth, seventh- and eighth-place.

The Jackrabbits were led by junior Brooke Wyffels, who finished the 5k in fifth place with a time of 19 minutes and 42.00 seconds.

Four freshman rounded out the race for the Jacks.

Alex Suhr finished in sixth place at 19:57.00.
Brooke Peterson finished seventh at 20:01.00.
Leah Bolon finished eighth at 20:21.00.
Bobbie Sedlmajer finished 11th at 20:40.00.

South Dakota State was second in the team standings, six points behind the leader.

The South Dakota State men's cross country team did not compete, but two individuals did run in the 33-man field.

Senior Dominic Thielen finished the 8k in fifth place with a time of 27:20.00
Sophomore Christian Karels came in eight seconds after Thielen to finish in sixth place.

Both the men's and women's cross country teams return to action next Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Roy Griak Invitational. The Griak Invitational will take place in Minneapolis, Minn., and is set to begin at Noon.
