South Dakota State men's tennis student-athlete Parker Lawley was named Player of the Week after two singles wins and one doubles win.

Despite splitting its two meets, Lawley won two matches at No. 4 singles and one match at No. 1 doubles.

In Friday's meet at Creighton, the Bluejays edged the Jacks, 5-2. Lawley paired with Andrea Boglić at the top doubles spot, but the match was unfinished due to the team point being decided. In singles, he defeated Brandon Lee 6-4, 6-1 for one of the two SDSU points.

On Monday, the team won its spring trip opener in Florida versus Ohio Dominican (5-2). In doubles, the duo finished its match and helped SDSU win the doubles point with a consistent 8-4 win versus Walid Gtari and Patrick Ohanian. In singles, Lawley won in convincing fashion once again, defeating Jeremy Mokry 6-2, 6-3.

"Parker has put in the time this year and definitely earned this award," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "He got off to a bit of a slow start this season, but his game is coming around at the right time. The entire team is starting to build some positive momentum and hopefully we can capture it at its peak as the season progresses."

Lawley improved to 5-4 in singles this season and 2-1 with Boglić at the top doubles spot.

It is the first career POW honor for Lawley.

The split pushed the Jacks' record to 3-7. SDSU continues its spring trip in Florida on Tuesday versus Presbyterian.
