Jackrabbits wrap up spring opener

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - The South Dakota State University women's golf team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a last-place finish at the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational, which concluded Wednesday at Boulder Creek Golf Club.

The Jackrabbits recorded rounds of 309, 318 and 321 to finish the three-day event with a 948 team total. Pepperdine (Calif.) posted a 20-under-par team score of 844 (285-278-281) to win the three-day event. Brigham Young (Utah) was second at 858 (280-285-293), followed by Oklahoma at 863 (282-292-289).

Individually, Rachel Hanigan was the top SDSU finishing, placing in a tie for 47th at 230 (72-81-77). Morgan Fitts added a three-round total of 238 (78-78-82) to tie for 63rd among 85 players.

Rounding out the Jackrabbit effort were: Katie Purcell, tied for 72nd, 242 (79-84-79); Brittany Hanten, tied for 74th, 243 (80-78-85); Abby Feehan, tied for 78th, 247 (83-81-83), and Whitney Schrader, 84th, 270 (92-88-90).

SDSU will host the Jackrabbit Invitational March 14-15 in Primm, Nev.
