Women sixth, men eighth at home invite

PRIMM, Nev. -- The South Dakota State men's and women's golf teams completed the first two rounds of the Jackrabbit Invitational at the Desert course of Primm Valley Golf Club on Monday.

The Jackrabbit women are tied for sixth after shooting a 617 (297-320). Their first round score of 297 breaks the D-I 18-hole team-score by six strokes set in 2009, and their 36-hole score of 617 is the second best in the D-I era. Katie Purcell, Brittany Hanten and Morgan Fitts all had top-10 first-round 18-hole scores. Purcell shot a 73, which is tied for the fourth best 18-hole score. Hanten and Fitts both shot a 74, which ties them for fifth.

Hanten leads the Jackrabbit women with a two-round score of 150 (74-76), and she is currently tied for ninth place. Fitts carded a 153 (74-79) and is tied for 21st. Purcell tallied a 155 (73-82) and is tied for 27th. Rachel Hanigan is tied for 45th after registering a 161 (76-85). Abby Feehan shot a 167 (84-83) and is tied for 61st. Whitney Schrader competed as an individual and also tied for 61st after carding a 167 (84-83).

The Jackrabbit men are in eighth place after shooting a team score of 583 (291-292). Kyle Cooper leads the men with a score of 142 (72-70) and is tied for 17th while competing as an individual. Hudson Carpenter shot a 144 (73-71) and is tied for 28th. Lukas Davison is tied for 31st after tallying a 145 (73-72). David Smith carded a 146 (74-72) and is tied for 35th. Greg Fehrman is tied for 52nd after registering a 150 (73-77). Nolan Meyer shot a 151 (72-79) and is tied for 54th.  Brian Wynia and Matthew Erickson also competed as individuals. Wynia carded a 149 (73-76) and is tied for 49th. Erickson is tied for 71st after tallying a 157 (82-75).

Missouri leads the men with a score of 545 (263-282) and Oral Roberts leads the women with a score of 585 (295-290). Stuart Ballingall and Jace Long, both of Missouri, are tied for medalist honors 132 (62-70) and (63-69) respectively. Kelsey Welber of Missouri State leads the women with a score of 138 (70-68).

The third and final round begins Tuesday morning.
