Jackrabbit women tied for 8th at Courtyard Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- The Jackrabbit women’s golf team opened up the first two rounds of the Jacksonville Courtyard Classic on Monday and stand tied for eighth place.

The Jacks are playing in the second of two back-to-back Florida tournaments, currently competing at Hidden Hills Country Club to close out the fall season. SDSU shot 333 and 320 (653) on day one, tied with Florida Atlantic University in the 10 team field.

Morgan Fitts fired rounds of 80 and 78 (158) on the 5,969-yard, par-72 course. Fitts is in a tie for 29th heading into the final round.

Amber Houser is tied for 43rd with rounds of 81 and 83 (164), followed closely by Michaela Kuori in 49th and Brianna Janu in 50th. Kouri bounced back nicely from an opening round of 88, carding a 78 (166) in round two. Janu posted rounds of 84 and 83 (167).

Sydney MacDonald also had a better showing in round two, with scores of 92 and 81 (173), and stands in 58th place.

Host Jacksonville University sits atop the team leaderboard with a day one total of 603 (297-306). JU also has the top golfer of the tournament so far, with Jessica Welch three-under aftr rounds of 69 and 72 (141).

The third and final round kicks off Tuesday morning.
