The South Dakota State men's tennis team beat the storm to Grand Forks, N.D., and beat UND 6-1 in the process.

SDSU left early Tuesday morning and beat the weather north, swept singles in a 6-1 win versus North Dakota and returned before the storm started again Tuesday evening.

All three doubles matches were won or lost by the same 8-5 score. UND warmed up more quickly with doubles wins at No. 1 and No. 2 for the team point and the early lead.

Henrique Pereira and Lucas Pereira defeated Will Biernat and David Bergstrom in the No. 3 slot, but SDSU was unable to secure a second doubles match.

The momentum shifted dramatically in singles, as the Jacks swept all six matches versus North Dakota, five in straight sets.

Andrea Boglić defeated Josh Oothoudt 6-2, 6-3 at the top spot to open the scoring. Parker Lawley won by the inverse, 6-3, 6-2, versus Ryan McGuigan at No. 2.

Mateus Moreira and James Thorp tied for the least amount of games lost by a Jackrabbit. Moreira defeated Connor Oberle 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3, while Thorp defeated Joe Lee 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.

H. Pereira and L. Pereira completed their day with singles wins at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. H. Pereira defeated Grant Bakke 6-3, 6-4, while L. Pereira needed a third-set super tiebreaker to defeat Biernat 2-6, 6-4, 10-4.

"Today was a great mental effort by the team," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We had sketchy weather conditions and we did not even know if we were going to make the trip in the morning. After all of that, we went down and fell behind after doubles. It is easy to get down on yourself mentally at that point. But we responded in singles and it is a great sign leading into a conference meet this weekend."

SDSU improved to 8-10 overall with a win in its final non-conference meet. The Jacks are back in action on Saturday at Omaha. Start time is set for 2 p.m.
