Women's golf places 12th
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Jackrabbit women's golf team wrapped up the 2013 LPGA Xavier Invitational on Monday with a 12th place finish.
The Jacks posted a final round of 334 to go along with scores of 317 and 318 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, for a tournament total of 969.
Islamiah Fuad tied for 42nd place and was the top finisher for the Jacks at the 6,146-yard, par-72 LPGA International Golf Course. The freshman carded rounds of 77, 80 and 82 for a three-day total of 239.
Sophomore Brianna Janu notched rounds of 79, 83 and 80 for a 54-hole score of 242. The Glenwood, Minn., native tied for 50th place.
Sydney MacDonald shot a final round of 84 after back-to-back scores of 80 in the first two rounds. The sophomore tied for 54th place with a three-round total of 244.
Freshman Megan Mingo tied for 65th place with scores of 81, 79 and 88 for a 54-hole score of 248.
Alli Plath tied for 71st place with rounds of 83, 79 and 88. The junior had a tournament score of 250.
Mercer University finished in first place out of the 18 teams at the tournament, hosted by Xavier University. Mercer posted team scores of 305, 296 and 292 for a 54-hole score of 893, eight strokes better than Daytona State College (300-301-300-901) and Morehead State (302-294-305-901), who tied for second place.
Samford University's Bailey Gray took first place individually. Gray shot rounds of 73, 70 and 69 for a three-day total of 212.
The Jackrabbits have one more event on the fall schedule before having to head inside for the winter. SDSU is set to compete at the Payne Stewart Memorial on Oct. 14-15, hosted by Missouri State in Springfield, Mo.
