Jacks complete weekend sweep in dominating fashion
GREELEY, Colo. -- South Dakota State (6-7, 3-1 WWC) used a pair of falls at 157 and 197 by No. 16 Cody Pack and Trey Hable, respectively, along with a major decision by Brance Simms at 133 to rout Northern Colorado, 31-6.
SDSU would open a 31-0 lead by winning the first eight matches, before dropping the the final two matchups.
With the dual starting at 133, Simms defeated Sonny Espinoza, 17-5 to record the major. Eric Orozco (141) and Alex Kocer (149) both won 5-2, defeating Nick Adams and Beau Roberts, respectively.
In the highlighted match of the dual, No. 16 Pack pinned No. 25 Mitchell Polkowske at the 5:51 mark. Pack was leading Polkowske 15-2 before he turned him and recorded the fall.
Following decision wins by Joe Brewster (165), John Nething II (174) and Ben Schwery (184), Trey Hable recorded a fall of his own in the 197-pound showdown as the redshirt freshman pinned Cole Briegel just over a minute into the first period.
UNC would win the final two matches, as J.J. Everard and Ben Gillette dropped decisions, 7-1 and 7-3, respectively.
With the win, SDSU moves to 3-1 in the conference and sets up a showdown for the Western Wrestling Conference championship next Sunday in Fargo. The Jacks and Bison will wrestle at 2 p.m.
