The South Dakota State wrestling team had three wrestlers compete unattached at the North Country Open this weekend...

The open was hosted by the University of Minnesota - Duluth in Collegeville, Minn.

Colby Kloetzer, John Nething II and Ryan Festag competed at 157 pounds, 165 pounds and 174 pounds, respectively.

Colby Kloetzer had an impressive showing, going 4-0 en route to a first-place finish at 157. Kloetzer won each match by decision, defeating two wrestlers from St. John's (including the runner-up), one from Minnesota and one from Ridgewater. In the championship, Kloetzer scored a 9-4 win over his opponent from St. John's.

At 165 pounds, John Nething II scored a fall against his first opponent before entering the wrestleback after a second-round defeat. In the wrestleback, Nething II posted a major decision and two decisions en route to a third-place finish. In the third-place match, Nething II matched Kloetzer with a 9-4 decision over his opponent, a semifinalist from Augsburg.

Ryan Festag wrestled at 174 pounds, but ran into some tough competition. Festag dropped his opener before going 1-1 in the wrestleback. Festag scored a 5-3 decision before being knocked out by a slim 5-1 decision.
