Jacks Continue WWC Action vs. Air Force

Last Time Out: SDSU recorded one of the biggest wins in the Division I era of Jackrabbit wrestling last Sunday, beating Wyoming, 18-17 - the first win over UW in school history. Trailing 17-12 with two matches remaining, Brance Simms (133) and Eric Orozco (141) each won their respective matches. Alex Kocer (149), Cody Pack (157), John Nething II (174) and J.J. Everard (285) joined Simms and Orozco in the win column for the Jacks.
Scouting the Falcons: Joel Sharrett is in his eighth season at the helm for the Falcons and is a 1995 graduate of the University of Iowa. On the mat, Air Force is led by 125-pounder, Josh Martinez. The sophomore is ranked No. 5 (AWN) and owns a 24-2 record, including a perfect 7-0 dual mark. The Academy’s losses have come to Northwestern (28-15), Stanford (30-13) and Oregon State (30-3).
History Lesson: Air Force holds a 9-1 all-time advantage over the Jacks that dates back to 1992-93, including a current seven-dual win streak. SDSU’s lone win in the series came in 2005-06, as the Jacks downed the Falcons, 25-12. Air Force won 41-5 last season in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Socially Supreme: After continuing to climb the rankings, SDSU remained ranked No. 1 in the latest social media Power Rankings, announced by the NWCA and Elite Level Sport Marketing. Last season, SDSU was named the Top Newcomer in the Best of Brand Annual Achievement Awards, as presented by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, in coordination with Elite Level Sport Marketing. Jackrabbit wrestling continues to launch itself into the national spotlight through expanded use of its social media platforms and the #GetJacked mantra. To go along with its popular “Jacked Up Monday” videos, SDSU has added “Jackrabbit Wrestling: All Access” as a second weekly video. These videos are released on Thursdays and gives fans a unique, behind-the-scenes look at the Jacks. These All Access videos have included everything from a preview show, to cribs and a day in the life. Coach Bono and his staff have encouraged fans to interact with SDSU wrestling via social media to suggest future video topics.
Looking Ahead: SDSU returns to Cedar Falls for the second time this season, as the Jacks will take on No. 5 Northern Iowa and Ohio in a triangular on Feb. 1. SDSU and Ohio will wrestle at noon, followed by UNI at 3 p.m. SDSU is 3-37-1 all-time against the Panthers and 0-1-1 against the Bobcats, tying in their most-recent dual in 2001-02, 21-21.
Program History: 2013-14 marks the 65th season of Jackrabbit wrestling. SDSU owns a 504-347-22 (.590) program record. Chris Bono is the 12th coach in Jackrabbit history and owns a 46-32 career (.590). SDSU has won six conference championships, with the last coming in 1996-97.
