BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State University men’s golf coach Jared Baszler announced Tuesday that three high school seniors have signed national letters of intent to play for the Jackrabbits next season.

Signing Tuesday were:

- Zach Sackett, St. Paul’s High School, Winnipeg, Manitoba

- Michael Duch, Roncalli High School, Aberdeen, S.D.

- Naqiuddin Fuad, Klian Pauh Secondary School, Perak, Malaysia

“This class is one of the strongest we’ve signed in recent years,” Baszler said.  “All three guys will need to come in and collectively fill the shoes of our departing seniors.  I’m confident they will be able to make an immediate impact and compete for a spot on the traveling team.”

Currently ranked No. 1 in Manitoba by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard, Sackett ranked 26th on the Canadian Junior National Order of Merit.  In tournament play this past year, he placed second at the CN Future Links Western Championships, third at the Maple Leaf Junior Tour Tournament of Champions and tied for third at the 2013 Manitoba Junior Boys Championship.

“Canada has been a strong recruiting focus for us the past three years so we are excited to land Zach as a recruit,” Baszler said.  “Zach comes with a wealth of tournament experience playing all over Canada and the U.S.  His national ranking is impressive and he will fit well into the student-athlete culture here at SDSU.”

Fuad also brings an impressive list of accomplishments to SDSU. In 2013, he was the Etiqa Selangor International Junior Masters Champion, and in 2012, Fuad was the 2012 Asian Pacific Junior Am Champion, runner-up at Malaysian Junior Open and runner-up at U.S. Kids World Junior - Under-21 Boys Division.  Fuad’s sister, Islamiah, is currently a freshman on the Jackrabbit women’s golf team.

“We can’t be more excited to add ‘Din’ to our program next year and that he gets to join his sister at SDSU,” Baszler said.  “Islamiah’s work ethic and ability to transition to college golf and life had a large influence on us offering Din his scholarship.  His golf accomplishments speak for themselves and we feel his best golf is still in front of him.”

Duch comes to South Dakota State after winning the 2013 South Dakota Class A state title.  He was also a two-time Region 1A champion and the 2013 Northeast Conference Champion.  Additionally, Duch is a three-time all-state selection.

“Michael is a late bloomer who has all the physical tools to play at this level.  His potential and overall student-athlete makeup are a great fit for our program,” Baszler said.  “He has the chance to make a huge impact on our program.  With a lot of hard work and improvement, I’m confident he will do that.”

The SDSU golf team returns to action at the fifth annual Jackrabbit Invitational March 17-18, 2014, at Primm Valley Golf Course in Primm, Nev.
