MANHATTAN, Kan. — David Smith finished tied for 10th place to lead the South Dakota State University men's golf team at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday.
A sophomore from Plymouth, Minn., Smith shot a 225 (74-74-77) and finished in the top 10 for the first time in his collegiate career.
Nolan Meyer also finished in the top 25 after carding a 234 (77-80-77) to tie for 24th. Greg Fehrman finished in 34th after tallying a score of 236 (80-77-79). Hudson Carpenter compiled a score of 240 (75-81-84) and finished in 39th place. Lukas Davison finished in 44th place after registering a score of 245 (83-83-79).
Brian Wynia and Kyle Cooper both competed as individuals in the 47-player tournament. Wynia finished tied for 24th after compiling a score of 234 (81-76-77). Cooper tallied a score of 244 (83-83-78) and finished tied for 42nd.
As a team, SDSU finished last in the seven-team-tournament with a score of 930 (306-312-312). Central Arkansas won the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate with a team score of 889 (299-290-300).
Gideon Pienaar of Central Arkansas took medalist honors with a score of 211 (72-65-74).
The Jackrabbit men will play next at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate in Kansas City, Mo. on Oct 18.
