LAWRENCE, Kan. - David Smith finished tied for first place
at the Kansas Invitational Tuesday after he fired a three-round total of 214 (68-72-74). Smith tied
with Chris
Weninger of Louisiana-Lafayette and Daily
Young of Missouri State.
The Jackrabbit men finished tied for sixth place after compiling a three-round score of 902 (302-299-301).
UMKC won the tournament with a score of 874 (295-295-284).
Hudson Carpenter shot a 227 (78-75-74) and finished tied for 31st. Greg Fehrman carded a 230 (78-77-75) and finished tied for 39th. Nolan Meyer finished tied for 50th after tallying a 233 (80-75-78). Dillon Schultz registered a 240 (78-81-81) and finished tied for 65th.
TJ Lovato and Lukas Davison both competed as individuals. Lovato shot a 237 (79-82-76) and finished tied for 59th, while Davison carded a 238 (83-80-75) and finished tied for 61st.
Smith's finish was the best by a South Dakota State golfer since Trent Peterson won the Beu/Mussatto Invitational in April 2009.
The Jackrabbit men play next at the Cleveland State Invitational in Cleveland, Ohio on Oct. 3.
