Telford honored by Summit League
ELMHURST, Ill. -- South Dakota State University senior Daniel Telford was honored Monday as Summit League Player of the Week after a strong weekend at the plate in a three-game series at Northern Colorado.
A native of Newmarket, Ontario, Telford batted .600 (6-for-10) as the Jackrabbits won two of three games. In an 11-8 victory on March 30, Telford tied a career high with four hits, going 4-for-5 with a triple, three runs batted in and two runs scored. He added two more hits, including another triple, in the series finale.
For the week, Telford tallied a 1.000 slugging percentage and .667 on-base percentage. He raised his batting average for the season to a robust .486 (18-for-37) and is slugging .784.
The Jackrabbits, 12-9 overall, are tentatively scheduled to open their home schedule Wednesday by hosting Minnesota in a 3 p.m. contest at Erv Huether Field. SDSU then is slated to host North Dakota State in a four-game series Friday through Sunday to open the Summit League portion of its schedule.
