Lawley earns second POW
South Dakota State men's tennis student-athlete Parker Lawley earned his second Player of the Week honor this season for his performances this past weekend.
Lawley earned the honor after an undefeated weekend at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. He was a three-set winner in both singles matches and won one of the two doubles matches in a tiebreaker.
In the opening meet of the triangular, Lawley defeated Patrick Hammers of Western Illinois 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the second singles spot. He teamed with Andrea Boglić for a 9-8 (10-8) win at the top doubles spot versus Christoph Haertel and Bradley Holt, as well. The wins propelled SDSU to a 5-2 win and, at the time, secured its spot in the four-team Summit League Championships.
In the regular season finale, Lawley defeated Connor Andrews of Fort Wayne 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. The Lawley/Boglić duo defeated Daniel Kang and Joao Freitas 8-6 at the top spot to clinch the team doubles point. The 4-1 win locked up the No. 2 seed for the Jackrabbits at this weekend's championships.
Lawley finished with a team-best 13 singles wins and 4-0 record in league play and was 9-4 with Boglić at the top doubles spot.
Lawley was also named Player of the Week on March 5. It is the third career POW honor for Lawley.
The Jacks finished the regular season with an 11-10 overall record, 4-1 in The Summit League and clinched the No. 2 seed at the league championships.
The championships are set for Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
