SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State capitalized on two Fort Wayne errors to score four runs in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by an Alex Landon triple, to secure a 4-3 win over the Mastodons on Sunday in the series finale at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls.

The Jackrabbits improve to 15-29 on the season overall with the win, and to 5-16 in The Summit League, while IPFW falls to 25-13 overall and to 8-4 in league play.

IPFW scored single runs in the first and third innings to take the early 2-0 lead, before the Jacks got things going in the bottom of the third. Kelly Kleppin got hit by a pitch to start the inning, and then scored in the next at bat, when Sammy Bingham attempted a sacrifice bunt, and then reached on a throwing error that sent her to second. On the same play, the IPFW right fielder picked up the initial throwing error and threw an errant ball towards home plate to try and throw out Kleppin, which allowed Bingham to reach third base.

Devon Reick came up next, drew a walk and then stole second to put runners on second and third with no outs for Landon, who delivered a 2RBI triple to right field, scoring both Bingham and Rieck to give SDSU a 3-2 lead.

Elyse Eitel came up next and delivered a single to left that scored Landon to give the Jacks a 4-2 lead, prompting a pitching change for the Mastodons that ended the Jackrabbit rally.

The scored stayed 4-2 Jackrabbits until the top of the fifth, when IPFW used a pair of hits and a walk to cut the SDSU lead to 4-3, but they would get no closer.

Kori Seidlitz gutted out the win for the Jacks in the circle. She gave up three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks before giving way to Landon, who pitched a perfect seventh to pick up her first save of the season.

The winning pitcher in the first two games of the series, Miranda Kramer took the loss for the Mastodons, giving up four runs, three earned, over two-plus innings with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Jackrabbits close the 2013 season next weekend with a three game series at Kansas City, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by a single game on Sunday at noon.
