SIOUX FALLS, S.D.-- The second annual Jackrabbit Fall Invitational kicks-off Monday morning, Sept. 23, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at the Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls.

The first 36 holes of the tournament take place Monday, with the final 18 holes coming Tuesday morning. Live-scoring is available at www.BirdieFire.com.

The Jacks

Senior Hudson Carpenter is the SDSU golfer to watch heading into the tournament, but he's had some company with freshman Grant Smith adjusting to the college game quickly.

“Grant and Hudson have led the men’s team so far this season through just two tournaments.  We will need them to continue to play well and our 3-5 spots to improve going forward this season, starting this week," head coach Jared Baszler said.

The "3-5 spots" Baszler referenced are being filled by sophomore Dylan Baker, senior Lukas Davison and freshman Ian Rinken.

The Jacks also have two golfers competing unattached: sophomore Austin Sitter and freshman Trevor Tobin.

The Field

The eight-team field features local schools from the upper-Midwest, including: Augustana, Creighton, Northern Iowa, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and South Dakota State. There are also five individuals competing: two from SDSU and one each from UNI, USD and NDSU.

The Course
From Minnehaha Country Club website (www.minnehahacc.com)

“For more than a century, Minnehaha Country Club has been evolving from an afternoon golf outing with friends on a primitive course to one of the region’s premier golf courses. The rolling terrain is surrounded by groves of beautiful trees. Meticulously groomed undulating greens blend into flowing lush fairways to create a jewel enjoyed by golfers of all skill levels. Golf’s pivotal role at Minnehaha Country Club is evident not only with this championship course, but the staff, services, and commitment surrounding the game.”

Coach's Outlook
Baszler is looking for his team to make an impression with the added bonus of golfing on home turf:

“Expectations certainly are higher this week for both the men and the women. The bar for our program is that we are one of the teams to beat in the Summit League each year and there are a lot of Summit League teams at this tournament. With this being our only true home tournament, that adds some extra incentive too.”

The 'new' Dakota Cup

The coaches from NDSU, UND, USD and SDSU have decided to alter the annual Dakota Cup. Starting this season, the cup winner will be determined by combining men’s and women’s team results from the Jackrabbit Fall Invitational in Sioux Falls and the Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nev., in the spring season. NDSU currently holds the cup from 2011-12, as it was cancelled last season due to weather.

Last Time Out

The Jacks finished in 13th place at the Ram Masters Invitational, hosted by Colorado State. SDSU shot rounds of 298, 304 and 290 for a 54-hole score of 892.
