SDSU places 18th in final fall action
SIMI VALLEY, Calif. -- The Jackrabbit men's golf team wrapped up the 2013 fall season on Tuesday at the Bill Cullum Invitational, finishing in 18th place.
After a 304 in round one on Monday, play had to be suspended late in the second round due to darkness. The Jacks finished off round two on Tuesday morning with a score of 311 and shot 299 in the final round.
SDSU had a two day tournament total of 914 at the 6,819-yard, par-72 Wood Ranch Golf Club, edging out Weber State (304-306-306-916) by two strokes for 18th place out of the 20 team field.
Hudson Carpenter (+7) was the top golfer for the Jacks, tying for 50th place with a 54-hole score of 223. The senior carded rounds of 73, 76 and 74 and notched eight birdies during the tourney.
Freshman Grant Smith (+8) tied for 55th place with rounds of 73, 82 and 69. The Johnston, Iowa, native posted eight birdies, five of which came in the final round on Tuesday, and finished with a three-round total score of 224.
Lukas Davison (+16) posted rounds of 79, 76 and 77 to finish with a three-round total of 232. The senior finished tied for 81st and carded five birdies overall at the tournament.
Freshman Ian Rinken (+21) finished his first fall season off with 54-hole total of 237. Rinken posted rounds of 80, 78 and 79 to finish tied for 93rd place, posting eight birdies along the way.
Dylan Baker (+25) placed 101st with rounds of 79, 81 and 81 for a two-day total of 241. The sophomore had two birdies and an eagle at the event.
Long Beach State's Daniel Chian took home medalist honors with a 10-under 206 (72-68-66) and CSU Fullerton took home top team honors, shooting a 15-under 849 (288-280-281) to edge out San Diego (282-275-293-850) by a stroke.
The Jacks now head inside for the winter to until the spring season kicks off with the Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nev., on March 17-18, 2014, held at the Primm Valley Golf Club.
