Fall series tied after weekend
The South Dakota State baseball team's Jackrabbit World Series is even at a game apiece after weekend play.
In Game 1 Saturday, the Rabbits scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull out a 2-1 victory. Andrew Melton, who was 2-for-3, started the game-winning rally with a double.
Eric Danforth led the Rabbits at the plate by going 3-for-4. Freshman Zach Coppola had two hits and scored the Jacks' lone run.
The Jacks drew even with 4-1 victory Sunday afternoon, scoring three times in the top of the eighth. Coppola started the rally with a leadoff single and scored on a double by Scott Splett. Jake Ratz followed with a triple to plate Splett and Reid Clary capped the scoring with a run-scoring single.
The Rabbits' lone run of the game came in the second inning as Steven Autenrieth led off with a double and later scored on a base hit by Zach Holt.
Kolton Emery allowed one run in 4 2/3 innings as he started for the Jacks, who used six pitchers in the game. Kraemer was credited with the victory, with Talon Jumper earning the save after pitching a perfect ninth inning.
Clary led the Jacks' 11-hit attack with a 3-for-4 afternoon at the plate. Coppola, Splett and Jordan Varga each tallied two hits.
Holt and Michael Finocchiaro each tallied two hits for the Rabbits.
The series resumes Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Erv Huether Field.
