All nine players in the South Dakota State starting lineup recorded a hit as the Jackrabbit baseball team recorded an 8-2 victory over North Dakota in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Erv Huether Field.

The Jackrabbits won their fourth consecutive game and 13th in their last 14 outings to improve to 16-10 overall. UND dropped its 12th consecutive game, falling to 1-19 overall.

SDSU scored without the benefit of a hit in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Billy Stitz and Andrew Phelan drew back-to-back walks and then executed a double steal to put runners at second and third. Stitz later scored on a groundout by Zach Rhodes.

The Jackrabbits scored two runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings to build a 7-1 lead. Jesse Sawyer drove in the third-inning runs with a two-out single and Nick Andrews delivered a two-run base hit in the fifth.

Andrew Melton started the two-run rally in the fourth inning with a double - SDSU's lone extra-base hit among its 11 hits on the day. Melton scored on Beau Hanowski's single up the middle, and Hanowski came around to score on a base hit by Phelan two batters later.

UND cracked the scoring column in the fourth inning against Jackrabbit starter Austin Busse on an opposite-field double by Kris Kwak that scored Josh Ray. UND added an unearned run in the sixth.

Busse, a junior right-hander, earned his first victory of the season as he allowed six hits and struck out two in six innings. Alex Oberle pitched two scoreless innings and Deon Entringer hurled a scoreless ninth to close out the Jackrabbit victory. SDSU pitchers did not allow a walk in the game.

Hanowski and Phelan each recorded two hits to lead the Jackrabbits, who stole a season-high five bases in the game. Ryan Gerber, Ray and Kwak posted two hits apiece for UND, which ended the game with eight hits.

SDSU returns to Summit League play Friday night, opening a four-game series at Centenary. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. in Shreveport, La.
