Vermeulen earns another Summit Award
After a dominant weekend on the mound, South Dakota State University reliever Trever Vermeulen has been named Summit League Pitcher of the Week. It marks the second time this season and seventh time in his career the Mitchell native has received the weekly award.
In three outings last weekend against North Dakota State, the right-hander did not allow a run as he struck out 13 batters and walked only one in 10 innings of work, holding opposing batters to a .097 batting average. He was the winning pitcher in the opening game of the four-game series on May 6 and earned his eighth save of the season in the first game of a doubleheader on May 7. In a 15-inning marathon on May 8, Vermeulen tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings, recording a career-high eight strikeouts.
A senior, Vermeulen has posted a 2-0 record with a 0.98 earned run average in league games this season, while recording six saves and 36 strikeouts in 27.2 innings.
The Jackrabbits, 30-13 overall, are scheduled to play a non-conference game at North Dakota State on Tuesday night, before traveling to Tulsa, Okla., Friday-Sunday for a four-game series at Oral Roberts. SDSU holds a two-game lead over Oral Roberts for the top spot in the Summit League standings.
