The South Dakota State men's and women's tennis teams host North Dakota in the lone home meets of the season on Friday at noon...

The women face UND at the Hillcrest Tennis Courts for the third straight season, while the men host a meet at Hillcrest for the first time since 2008.

Last season, the women's team lost three third-set super tiebreakers in a 5-2 loss to North Dakota in Brookings. In a meet that could have gone either way, the Jacks came up on the short end of the stick.

Jenny Blackburne and Brooke Henry, the only returners from last year's team, paired for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. They were also two of the four third-set super tiebreaker losses in singles.

In the spring, SDSU avenged its fall loss with a 6-1 win over UND in Grand Forks. Blackburne and Henry won at No. 1 doubles and at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

The women's roster sports Blackburne and Henry, two juniors, along with five freshmen. Ffion Davies, Tiffany Filipovich, Tacy Haws-Lay, Florencia Magni and Beatriz Souza are set to play in their first collegiate competition on Friday.

SDSU finished the season at 8-12 overall and 2-6 in Summit League competition.

UND finished at 2-18 overall, sixth in the Great West.

The men face North Dakota, a recently activated program at UND, after its best Summit League finish.

SDSU made its first trip to the Summit League Championships last season by virtue of its regular season finale win. The team competed hard, but was bested by top seed Kansas City in the semifinals.

Senior James Thorp and sophomores Parker Lawley and Alejandro Marin lead the men.

Last season, Thorp and Lawley teamed up for a 10-9 record (3-2 Summit League) at No. 1 doubles, the best record on the team. Thorp and Lawley were also the most successful singles players, with winning records at No. 4 and No. 3, respectively. Marin posted a 7-12 overall record, 2-2 in the conference at No. 5 singles.

The men competed at the Bradley Classic two weeks ago with improved success.

Thorp teamed up with Andrea Boglić at No. 1 doubles for a 2-2 overall record. The duo was a tiebreaker away from a 3-1 record. Thorp was 0-4 at No. 3 singles, while Boglić was 1-3 at No. 2.

Lawley paired with Luke Elifson at No. 2 for a 1-2 record. Lawley finished 1-3 at No. 1 singles, while Elifson was 1-3 at No. 8.

Luis Duque and Henrique Pereira were 0-3 at No. 3. Duque finished 1-3 at No. 7, while H. Pereira was 0-4 at No. 5.

Mateus Moreira and Lucas Pereira were 1-2 at No. 4. Moreira was 1-3 at No. 6, while L. Pereira was 0-4 at No. 4.

The last time the men hosted a meet in Brookings was in the spring of 2008. SDSU defeated Sioux Falls 8-1 at the Hillcrest Tennis Courts.
