Jacks fall season wraps up at ITA Regionals
TULSA, Okla. -- The South Dakota State men's and women's tennis teams both saw their seasons come to an end Saturday in ITA Regional action.
On the women's side, freshman Iasmin Rosa dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Zeppernick (Nebraska) to send her to the consolation bracket where she fell to Vickers (Tulsa) 6-1, 6-1. In the same consolation bracket, Florencia Magni fell to Mahajaroenkul (Witchita State) 6-0, 6-1. In the qualification consolation bracket, Ffion Davies defeated Wagner (Nebraska) 3-6, 6-4, 10-4.
"Overall, I thought we had some very bright moments this weekend," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "The ITA's feature nothing but the best players in the region and we were able to pick up some quality wins against some big-name tennis schools."
On the men's side, Andrea Boglic fell to Billy Paluch (Creighton) 6-2, 6-0 in the main draw consolation.
"The purpose of this week was to show how much our program has grown in the last few years and prove to ourselves that we bolong amongst the top schools," Engdahl said. "We did that with the wins we were able to pick up."
The SDSU men will kick off the spring season Jan. 17 at Oklahoma State, while the women will play at UW-Green Bay on Jan. 25.
