The South Dakota State women's tennis team signed a top 50 prospect from the state of California, strengthening its roster.

Head coach Michael Engdahl announced the signing of Tiffany Filipovich of San Diego, Calif., earlier this week.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Tiffany to the Jackrabbit tennis family," Engdahl said. "We know Tiffany is going to represent our program at a high level both on and off the court. Everyone involved with our tennis program knows this is an exciting time for Jackrabbit tennis, as Tiffany is the type of player that will keep our program moving forward. She will certainly make an immediate impact."

Filipovich is a top 50 player in southern California and holds a national ranking of 382, according to tennis recruiting.net. Filipovich also received the 2010 Bill Dudash Outstanding Service to Tennis Award.

Filipovich joins the roster as the only current player from California.

The Jacks open the spring season on Saturday, Jan. 28, against Northern Iowa. Meet time is set for 11 a.m. in Waterloo, Iowa, at the Blackhawk Tennis Club.
