The South Dakota State women's tennis team and head coach Michael Engdahl added three student-athletes to its 2012-13 roster...

Tacy Haws-Lay, Florencia Magni and Beatriz Souza join the team from far and wide, upping the Jackrabbit roster to eight.

Haws-Lay joins the team from Minneapolis, where she was a top-10 Northern Section player her entire junior career.

Haws-Lay was a three-time state doubles runner-up, playing varsity since seventh grade. She was voted captain her senior year at Mounds View High School team and was two-time team MVP. She was also named all-conference every year of high school.

"Tacy is a real dark horse in the Northern Section and I could not be happier that she made the decision to attend SDSU," Engdahl said. "She is going to surprise a lot of people and make an immediate impact on the Jackrabbit tennis family. Anytime you get a local player of her ability you are ecstatic, especially one with the character and commitment of Tacy."

Magni joins the Jacks from Cordoba, Argentina, where she was a six-time Best Sport Woman at Francisco Luis Bernárdez High School.

Magni won three national tournaments in singles, four national tournaments in doubles, reached the top-15 in her highest national ranking, participated in the 2008 Orange Bowl and is currently ranked among the top-50 in COSAT (South American Tennis Confederation).

"Florencia is going to make a perfect addition to the Jackrabbit tennis family," Engdahl said. "She has all of the characteristics you look for in a successful person and she is going to have an outstanding career as a Jackrabbit. Her extensive tournament experience has prepared her well for Division I tennis and I know she cannot wait to arrive in August. There is no doubt in my mind she will have many great accomplishments both on and off the court during her time at South Dakota State."

Souza hails from Parana, Brazil, where she was the top-ranked player in her state in 2009 and 2011.

Souza reached a career-high ranking of No. 8 in Brazil in 2010, was awarded Best Female Tennis Player in her state in 2009 and 2011 and won multiple tournaments in Brazil.

"Beatriz is going to fit in perfectly with the Jackrabbit tennis team," said Engdahl. "She had a great junior career in Brazil and is very passionate about the game of tennis. She has a sense of calmness to her game that is going to translate well at the Division I level. She is going to have an amazing four years at SDSU filled with many accomplishments."

The trio expands the country representation to five on the Jackrabbit roster.

The team opens the season at the UNI Invite on Sept. 21 in Waterloo, Iowa. The complete 2012-13 schedule is available on GoJacks.com.
