MINNEAPOLIS — Clark Kocourek claimed the 1-meter diving title Saturday as the South Dakota State University men's swimming and diving team closed out competition at the Minnesota Challenge.
A junior from Omaha, Neb., Kocourek tallied a score of 295.10 on the 1-meter board. Earlier in the day he placed eighth in the 3-meter competition with 264.50 points. Diving teammate Brad Schoreit placed fifth in the 1-meter competition with 214.15 points and took sixth on the 3-meter board with a total of 274.60.
On the swimming side, senior Kyle Ochsner was the top Jackrabbit finisher with a runner-up showing in the 1,650 freestyle. Ochsner turned in a time of 16 minutes, 6.28 seconds to pace a group of three SDSU swimmers to place in the top five. Alex McLain took third in 16:39.40, with Blake Yeager recording a fifth-place time of 17:18.35.
Phil Albu and Garth Wadsworth each recorded fourth-place efforts. Albu clocked a fourth-place time of 51.00 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke, while Wadsworth turned in a fourth-place time of 1:57.19 in the 200 butterfly.
Shea Patrick notched the other top-five finish for the Jackrabbit men, placing fifth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:09.69.
Each of the three Jackrabbit relay teams to compete on Saturday - the 200 medley, 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle - garnered third-place finishes.
SDSU will be in training until the Summit League Championships Feb. 20-23 in Rochester, Mich.
