South Dakota State closed the first half with a 30-11 run and never looked back in claiming the NCAA Division II North Central Regional with a convincing 87-57 rout of Denver University (Colo.) at Frost Arena on March 14, 1992.
After scoring 20 points in an overtime victory over St. Cloud State (Minn.) in the semifinals, tournament Most Valuable Player Chris White tallied a game-high 24 points in the championship game. Pete Leiferman added 11 points, while Jeff Booher and all-tournament selection Cory VandeWettering each scored 10. All 11 Jackrabbit players to see action scored at least three points.
VandeWettering and Mitch Lane each pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
SDSU shot 51.8 percent (28-of-54) from the field, including 6-of-12 from three-point range. Coach Jim Thorson's squad also dominated at the free throw line, converting 25-of-32 attempts, 78.1 percent.
The Jackrabbits forced 18 Denver turnovers and committed only eight in improving to 25-7 overall.
The NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearance was the first for the Jackrabbits since advancing to the national championship game in 1985.
