South Dakota State played its final non-conference match, also its final home match, of the season on Tuesday, when the Jackrabbits hosted No. 21 Iowa State. The Jackrabbits fell in straight sets in the match, and now return to Summit League play this weekend with matches at South Dakota and UMKC on the slate.
The weekend gets going on Friday inside the DakotaDome at 7 p.m., and then concludes on Sunday in Kansas City against the Kangaroos at 2 p.m.
SDSU setter Sydney Howard recorded a career-high seven kills, tied a career mark with six block assists and Kaitlin Klingemann set a new career-high with eight block assists, but No. 21 Iowa State finished with a 56-33 advantage in kills in a 3-0 win on Tuesday at Frost Arena.
Along with her career-high eight block assists, Klingemann led the Jackrabbit offense with nine kills. Howard got her seven kills on 10 attacks with no errors for a .700 hitting percentage. Margit Hansing led the Jacks with 14 digs, Kelly Herrmann added 12 and Shay Birath 11 digs.
Mackenzie Bigbee led the all players in the match with 13 kills. Victoria Hurtt added 12 kills in the win, while Kristen Hahn led the ISU defense with 25 digs.

FIEGEN CRACKS TOP-10 IN CAREER KILLS - Kelli Fiegen posted 21 kills at Southern Utah on Nov. 3, 2011 to become the 15th member of the SDSU 1,000-Kills Club and just the sixth member to reach the mark as a junior. Now a senior, Fiegen cracked the all-time top-10 in the Jacks win over North Dakota State on Sept. 16, and finished the final home weekend with 1,391 career kills, good for sixth all-time at SDSU.
FIEGEN BLOCKS INTO THE TOP-10 - In addition to her offensive prowess, Kelli Fiegen makes her defensive mark on the block. The senior wrapped up the weekend ranked seventh all-time at SDSU with 109 solo blocks and second all-time with 408 block assists.
FIEGEN TIES BLOCK ASSISTS RECORD - Kelli Fiegen tied the SDSU four-set total blocks record on Oct. 26, when she posted a career-high 10 block assists in the Jacks 3-1 win over Oakland. Fiegen shares the record with Amy Anderson, who recorded two solo blocks and eight block assists at North Dakota State on Nov. 11, 2006.
KLINGEMANN HITS 1,000 KILL MILESTONE - Kaitlin Klingemann needed 11 kills on Oct. 19 at Western Illinois to reach the 1,000 kill milestone. She finished with 14 in the Jacks 3-1 win to become the 16th member of the SDSU 1,000-Kills Club, and enters the weekend with 1,035 in her career.
BIRATH CHASING ALL-TIME DIGS RECORD - Shay Birath became the 13th member of the SDSU 1,000-Digs Club, and just the fifth member of the club to reach the milestone as a junior, at Oakland on Sept. 24, 2011. She climbed into second all-time on Sept. 22, in a win over Western Illinois, and enters the weekend with a 1,902 career digs, 28 away from a new school record.
BIRATH SETS FOUR-SET DIGS RECORD - Senior libero Shay Birath recorded 32 digs in the Jackrabbits 3-1 win over Omaha on Oct. 12, which sets a new SDSU four-set record, topping the old mark of 30, set by Samantha Pearson against Montana on Sept. 8, 2007. Birath already holds the school's three-set record, also with 32 digs.
HERRMANN JOINS THE SDSU 1,000-DIGS CLUB - Kelly Herrmann came up one dig shy of the 1,000 dig milestone in the Jacks 3-1 victory over Omaha on Oct. 12, and wasted little time against Western Illinois on Oct. 19 in picking up the one dig she needed to become the 14th player in SDSU history to reach the milestone. She enters the weekend ranked 13th on the list with 1,063 career digs.
THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS
South Dakota Coyotes (11-14, 5-8 Summit) - Still battling for one of the four spots in The Summit League Tournament later this month, South Dakota won three of its last four matches, with 3-1 wins over Oakland, Omaha and Kansas City, with the lone loss coming in five sets at Fort Wayne.
The Series vs. South Dakota - The Jackrabbits lead the all-time series 53-10. The Jackrabbit dominance in the series includes a 40-match win streak from 1984-2002. Despite the overall dominance, South Dakota came away victorious in six of the last seven meetings, including each of the last four.
The Last Meeting: Oct. 6; Frost Arena - Trailing 10-4 in the fifth set of its match with South Dakota, it looked like South Dakota State would crumble and fall, but the Jackrabbits fought back to tie the match and fended off two match points, before eventually dropping the set 18-16 and the match 3-2.
Kaitlin Klingemann led the Jacks with 17 kills, Bailey Philippot added 15 and Kelli Fiegen 14 kills in the loss. Shay Birath set the pace on defense with 27 digs, Margit Hansing finished with 19 and Kelly Herrmann 17 digs. Lexi Fowler posted her sixth double-double of the season with 30 set assists and 13 digs.
Kendall Kritenbrink led all players with 29 kills in the win. Kim Bulaga added 15 kills, while both Tory Kroll and Natalie Walseth finished with 10. Kroll added 16 digs to complete the double-double.
UMKC Kangaroos (15-11, 7-6 Summit) - The Kangaroos enter their final home weekend of the season tied for fourth place in the league standings with Oakland, but very much alive for one of the four spots in the league tournament. UMKC, who hosts North Dakota State on Friday, dropped three of its last four matches, with the lone win coming in a non-conference match with Southeast Missouri State. The three losses came at Oakland and Fort Wayne in straight sets, and a 3-1 loss in their
The Series vs. UMKC - The Jackrabbits lead the all-time series 10-3, which includes a six match winning streak to start the series. UMKC's only wins came in a 3-2 win on Oct. 1, 2009 and a pair of 3-1 wins on Nov. 11, 2011 and earlier this season on Oct. 5, both at Frost Arena.
The Last Meeting: Oct. 5; Frost Arena - South Dakota State won the first set with UMKC at Frost Arena by a 25-22 score, but dropped the next three in a battle of 4-2 Summit League teams by the set scores of 27-25, 25-21 and 25-23 to fall 3-1 in the match.
Emily Lucas led the visiting Kangaroos with a match-high 30 kills, and did so with a .436 hitting percentage on 55 swings with six errors. Emma Hagedorn added 13 kills for the 'Roos in 18 swings with just one error for a .667 hitting percentage.
The Kangaroos as a team finished with a .253 hitting percentage (64-25-154), while the Jacks hit at a .167 clip (51-27-162). UMKC also won the blocking battle with 11 team blocks, compared to 10 by the Jackrabbits.
