Volleyball falls to the Mastodons, 3-0
The South Dakota State volleyball team closed the weekend with a 3-0 loss to Summit League preseason co-favorite and defending league champion Fort Wayne on Saturday night, falling to the visiting Mastodons by the set scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-19.
“I thought our energy and effort was much better tonight compared to last night. We made a few too many errors and we have to get better kill efficiency from our attacker,” head coach Phil McDaniel said. “We’ve got a week to fix what I see as small issues, but there are several issues that we have to address this week.”
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 3-17 on the season overall and to 1-6 in The Summit League. Fort Wayne improves to 11-12 overall and to 3-4 in the league.
Defending Summit League Player of the Year Emily Spencer led all players in the match with 20 kills, adding nine digs, a solo block and a block assist for the Mastodons in the win. Kendall Wienkes added 16 kills for the ‘Dons.
Lexi Fowler finished with 19 set assists and came up two digs shy of a double-double with eight digs.
The Jackrabbits start the second half of The Summit League season on Saturday, when they host North Dakota State at 7 p.m.
