ELMHURST, Ill. – South Dakota State senior libero Samantha Pearson earned The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors for her efforts in helping the the Jackrabbits to a 4-1 record over the past week.

“Sam’s consistent ball handling skills enabled us to stay in our system all week,” said SDSU head coach Andrew Palileo. “And when we play in our system, we have a chance to win every match, which showed this week.”

Pearson picks up the honors after averaging 5.94 digs per game last week, and in the process, moved from ninth to third on the South Dakota State all-time digs list. Pearson tallied 28 digs in a sweep of Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday for a 9.3 per-game average. She also finished two other matches with 20 or more digs.

Pearson and the Jacks return to action this weekend, when they host the Jackabbit Invitational in Brookings. Montana and Long Island open the tournament on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by SDSU and North Texas at 7:30 p.m.

The tournament continues on Saturday with Long Island vs. North Texas at 11 a.m., SDSU vs. Montana at 1 p.m., and then following a short break, North Texas takes on Montana at 5:30 p.m., before SDSU and Long Island wrap-up the tournament at 8 p.m.
